Lexi Thompson: Tuesday Interview 2015

Q. You're two days away from the tournament. How do you feel physically, mentally, like ready to go, or are you glad we have two more days to play?

LEXI THOMPSON: I'm happy we have two more days until the tournament starts. It was crazy the last few days with the Canadian Open and going to West Point (inaudible.) But I'm super excited to be back, to play this golf course. I love being here and the fans are amazing.

Q. A lot of other girls, as you well know, want to be like you, want to play golf, pro golf. What do you tell them, a 10 or 11, 12-year old girl that wants to go down that path?

LEXI THOMPSON: Well, I would say to the parents just let your kids have fun and to follow their dreams. Obviously let them know that it takes a lot of hard work and dedication, but to make it fun, don't push them. If they love the game, they'll go out and practice and they'll have fun with it with their friends. They'll make it if they put their minds to it.

Q. I'm assuming you want more women to pick up the game of golf?

LEXI THOMPSON: Yeah, I hope so. I think the women's game is growing tremendously. I'm involved with the USGA Girls Golf program and just the little girls that have picked up a club and have started the game, it's truly incredible to see the group in the woman's sport. So it's great to see and hopefully it'll keep on doing so.

Q. Talk about the Champions Challenge. How much fun is that for you to actually come out here and have a little fun before the tournament starts?

LEXI THOMPSON: Yeah, the Champions Challenge, I did it last year and it's always a great time. Just to see the amount of little kids out here cheering us on and having a good time. It's always good to come back here to Alabama, but that's always one of my favorite things. It's always cool to see little kids with a smile on their face and screaming, so it's awesome.

Q. This is the second year you've taken this title home with you, so do you practice this?

LEXI THOMPSON: Well, it's sad to say that I'm good at like the low punch shots because sometimes I need them if I hit in the trees. I definitely practice those shots on the range sometimes, but just punch shots in general just in case it gets windy, which it could out here.

Q. Excited for Solheim Cup? The team's announced, everything's finalized, seems like it's coming up pretty fast now.

LEXI THOMPSON: Yeah, I'm extremely excited for Solheim Cup. I mean, that was one of my number one goals was to make it on the Solheim Cup team and represent my country. It's a huge honor, and especially to be playing for Juli Inkster. We have an amazing team and a great bond, so really looking forward to it.

Q. Thoughts on Paula and Brittany being named to the team yesterday?

LEXI THOMPSON: Well, I mean, they're great players. They'll be amazing for our team, not only how they play but just their attitudes in general. They'll always pick us up. Just definitely a great addition. They should be on it.

Q. What has to change this year for the Americans to win?

LEXI THOMPSON: You know, I think in 2013 I just don't think we got the amount of putts to drop that the Europeans did, but we had a great attitude. I think all we need is a good positive attitude out there to bring us together. Obviously good golf helps, but with a team tournament, it's all about attitude and how you come together.
